With the presence of a representative from the General Conference, the Davao Mission of the Seventh-day Adventists hosted the Nurture, Discipleship, Reclamation-Integrated Evangelism Lifestyle (NDR-IEL)-sponsored “Mission to the Cities” Training at the DM Conference Hall on March 27-29, 2023 with NDR –IEL Field Secretaries from different fields.

Ellen G. White, a writer and co-founder of the Adventist church, emphasized in her book Ministry to the Cities, 112,1: “It is Satan’s purpose to attract men and women to the cities and to gain this object he invents every kind of novelty and amusement, every kind of excitement. And the cities of the earth today are becoming as were the cities before the Flood.”

The worldwide Adventist headquarters or General Conference (GC) has sent Pr. Southern Asia- Pacific Division (SSD) has sent its NDR –IEL Director /Field Secretary, Pr. Arnel Gabin with his wife, Dr. Irelyn Gabin, the Assistant NDR –IEL Director /Field Secretary. They are tasked to inspire our field secretaries on the urgency of the urban mission and reaching the elite through a psychological and spiritual approach and the importance of a growth mindset and evangelism.

Delegates who will soon conduct more intensive city evangelism are the following NDR –IEL Field Secretaries: Pr. Elmer L. Dulang (Zamboanga Peninsula Mission); Pr. Jerrymil Pamonag (Western Mindanao Conference); Pr. Lonie Cena (Northeastern Mindanao Mission); Pr. Eliezer Bacus (North Central Mindanao Conference); Pr. Also present during the training is Pr. Jimmy Jiamah Adil, Adventist Missions of SPUC, whose significant focus of evangelism is for the indigenous communities or lumads, Muslims, Chinese, and highly vulnerable communities in the mountains, islands, and cities.

Sister Ellen G. White continued to shed light regarding this mission to the cities in Evangelism chap. 32, “Again and again, I am instructed to present to our churches the work that should be done in our large cities. There is a great work to be done, not only where we have churches already established, but also in places where the truth has never been fully presented.” In addition, “mission work should be done in all our large cities. There is special talent among us for this line of labor, and this talent should be educated and trained. Ministry to the Cities, 56, 1. (Dan Florante Callo/DM Communication)
