Adventist World Radio (AWR) and the Communication department of the South Philippine Union Conference (SPUC) joined efforts to conduct the Broadcasters’ Conference at the SPUC compound on November 9-10 purposely, to strengthen the operation of the 26 identified Adventist radio stations in Mindanao. AWR, as the broadcasting arm of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, operates 1800 frequencies and broadcast stations worldwide and aims to make Hope Radio stations in the South Philippines, affiliates of AWR, unifying and strengthening their resources and strategies to lift the message of salvation through the airwaves.

Dubbed “Conquering the Airwaves: Christ’s the Limit,” it was attended by all communication and media directors, station managers and radio technical staff from Zamboanga Peninsula Mission; Western Mindanao Conference; North-Central Mindanao Conference; Davao Mission; Southern Mindanao Mission; Northeastern Mindanao Mission; and two younger regional offices namely, Central Mindanao Mission and Northern Davao Mission, under the leadership of Pastor Roxie Pido, Communication Director of the Adventist Church headquarters in Mindanao.

Gracing the conference with their informative and inspiring messages were Pr. Timothy Saxton, AWR Director; Pr. Roseller Zamora, AWR Philippines Coordinator; Pr. Robert Basit Dulay, AWR GC Coordinator; and Pr. Mamerto Guingguing, outgoing Communication Director, all from the Southern Asia Pacific Division (SSD). Also joining as lecturers were Mr.RhoenCatolico, Davao Mission Communication Director; Mr. Janzta Calibod, Manager of Hope Channel South Philippines; Pr. Heshbon Buscato, the newly-elected Communication Director of SSD, Pr. Sonny Situmorang, Communication and AWR Director of West Indonesia Union Mission; and Pr. Ashir Illyas Khan, Executive Secretary and Communication Director of the Pakistan Union Section, discussed the development of evangelism in their country through radio ministry.

Pr. Dulay highlighted the testimonies of the conversion of hundreds of former rebels in the mountains of Luzon; after hearing the Adventist message through the radio, they were baptized and regained their loyalty to the government.

AWR announced its astounding pledge to provide broadcasting equipment, smart projectors, and solar-powered, Godpods, which can store recorded Bible study lessons and Ellen G. White writings in mp3 in different dialects. These can be distributed in the remote villages of Mindanao, even in territories without electricity.

With the application of peculiar Adventist broadcasting ethics and the guidance of the Holy Spirit, the Three-Angels’ Messages will be delivered by all children of God, believing that “this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end shall come.” (Matthew 24:14)

In the meantime, the radio ministry will continue to broadcast the Advent hope in Christ to all people, conquering the airwaves from broadcast to baptism. (Dan Florante Callo/DM Communication)
