Adventist Church members from the five provinces of Davao region gathered at church headquarters along Palm Drive, Bajada, Davao City on December 15 to celebrate its 50th Anniversary with the theme “Sharing Blessed Hope That Jesus is Coming Again.”

The event started with a fun run activity participated in by 406 registered runners from Davao del Sur and Occidental, Davao City, Davao del Norte, Davao Oriental, and Compostela Valley Province. The fun run was followed by a cleanup drive, feeding program, free medical services, and “The Great Hope” distribution. These activities were initiated by the Davao Mission with the intention to extend a hand in the community at the same time a means of thanksgiving for reaching 50 years with innumerable blessings!

“God’s goodness is the cream of this celebration,” said Pastor Danielo D. Palomares, South Philippine Union Conference (SPUC) Stewardship Director, in his sermon during the morning devotional after the motorcade. “The Lord is good to those whose hope is in Him, to the one who seeks Him; it is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord,” he further emphasized, quoting Lamentations 3: 25-26.

In the presence of almost 2000 participants, Pastor Jerry C. Patalinghug, president of Davao Mission, formally opened the celebration with a quote “Mabuhay Davao Mission!” The crowd, in response, gave him a joyful sound and noise.

“I am glad to have come to our mission office. This is my first time!” says some upon seeing and visiting the church headquarters in Davao region.

Several activities materialized afterwards, namely Singing Festival, Women’s Field Demo, Raffle Draw, and Kakanin Festival. Moreover, part of the program was the recognition of the Seventh-Day Adventist pioneers and testimonials in which Pastor Vicente S. Paypa is one of them, former president of the Davao Mission. With a soft voice, he simply said, “Thank you very much.”

Dr. Jonathan Catolico, communication director of the Adventist Church in the southern Asia-Pacific region was the main speaker during the celebration.

Hon. Danilo C. Dayanghirang, Davao City councilor, represented Mayor Rodrigo Duterte, as one of the guest speakers.

The event was definitely a success and its overall impression was positive which certainly placed a smile on everyone’s faces on their way home.
